The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is contemplating the construction of a 31-kilometre outer ring road in southern Peshawar, aimed at reducing traffic congestion and enhancing regional connectivity. The estimated cost for this significant infrastructure project ranges between PKR 50 billion and PKR 60 billion.
During a recent meeting, government officials reviewed the proposed route and discussed planning details along with logistical considerations for the development of the road. The new ring road is designed to navigate through several southern neighborhoods of Peshawar, diverting traffic from busy urban areas and facilitating smoother commutes.
To ensure effective traffic management, the chief minister has instructed the inclusion of proper interchanges along the route. This is intended to maintain a steady flow of traffic while accommodating future transportation needs. Coordination with the National Highway Authority (NHA) is also planned to create an interchange at the Peshawar Bus Terminal, enabling buses to connect directly to the terminal without entering congested city zones.
Additionally, officials explored the option of integrating a dedicated track for the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system along the outer ring road. This initiative aims to bolster the city's public transportation infrastructure, providing residents with a modern and efficient transit solution.
The proposed outer ring road is part of the provincial government's larger strategy to improve urban mobility, alleviate congestion, and support sustainable transport solutions in Peshawar.
