The Balochistan cabinet has given the green light for the construction of a $14 billion tri-state gas terminal in Gwadar, with funding from Turkmenistan. The cabinet emphasized the importance of protecting the province's rights throughout the project's development.
During a press briefing following the cabinet meeting, which was led by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, officials highlighted that the terminal would provide natural gas to various districts, including Gwadar, Panjgur, Chagai, and Washuk. This initiative is expected to bolster energy availability and support regional development.
In addition to the gas terminal project, the provincial cabinet reviewed a comprehensive agenda aimed at enhancing public welfare and law enforcement. Among the key decisions, the cabinet approved scholarships for 300 children under the Workers Welfare Board Scholarship Programme and allocated funds for the security of projects outlined in the South Balochistan Package.
The cabinet also took steps to upgrade local governance by granting university status to Tameer-i-Nau College and establishing a child protection helpline. Furthermore, it endorsed the completion of the Sibi-Harnai Road project, which is set to be funded through a cost-sharing agreement with the federal government.
Additionally, the cabinet approved ownership rights for residents in Kalanch and New Town in Gwadar and initiated the formation of new administrative subdivisions. These measures underscore the government's commitment to improving local infrastructure and governance in the region.
